He talked about electric cars. I don't know anything about cars, so when people said he was a genius I figured he must be a genius.

Then he talked about rockets. I don't know anything about rockets, so when people said he was a genius I figured he must be a genius.

Now he talks about software. I happen to know a lot about software and Elon Musk is saying the stupidest shit anyone's ever said, so when people say he's a genius I figure I should stay the hell away from his cars and rockets.

The students in my upper-level electrodynamics course are taking their final exam right now, which always reminds me of the time I told my students they could bring a formula sheet to the final exam as long as it was on one side of a piece of paper.

This is going to end with “Twitter.com” redirecting to a mediocre Etsy store selling Tesla memorabilia.

Apparently it’s “Free speech for me. Not for thee.”

No, skepticism of crypto doesn't "stem from lack of understanding".

Skepticism of crypto stems from it being an endless barrage of fraud, scams and the worst of human greed and criminality.

Drink water. Eat vegetables. Be nice to animals. Exercise regularly. Explore nature. Find a small door under a tree. Open it. Take a look inside. Get pepper sprayed by a tiny elf. Learn a valuable lesson about knocking first.

Ever wondered what it looks like at night?

This had quite a large moon so in usual fashion you cant expose for it and the MW at once, so superimposed a bit more detail with a secondary shot.

This was a 7 shot vertical panoramic (cropped later) with a 14mm lens

Fauci in the 1980s, pressed the point that HIV wasn’t just “the gay disease”, pushed for greater epidemiological surveillance, and helped mobilise effective responses to Ebola, SARS, and other epidemics.

Goodbye Twitter, Hello Mastodon

My blog explaining why I'm leaving the bird site behind, why I set up my own server, some advice on transferring and invite to tester.social

The blog is here: gerrardconsulting.com/blog/202

Never let an “agile” framework, method or tool prevent you from experimenting. “We are discovering better ways…”, the opening line of the Agile Manifesto, requires active experimentation.

I should probably say hi to everyone over here 🙂

How's everyone finding it? Feels like the early days of Twitter!

We’ve been busy this week watching the tester.social service to make sure its stable, works nicely. We think we’re there now. I’ll be promoting it tomorrow probably. In the meantime, if you want to share a service with a handful of users on a fairly large machine, you know where to come. We’ll definitely be committing to the Mastodon Server Covenant joinmastodon.org/covenant

European Commissioner Thierry Breton just joined Mastodon!

His first post, published right after a call with Elon Musk, made it clear that there is still huge work ahead for Twitter to comply with EU law:

1. Reinforce content moderation
2. Tackle disinformation
3. Implement transparent policies based on objective criteria (i.e., not via Twitter polls)
4. Limit targeted advertising
5. Prepare for an independent audit
